Google Hot Trends is a feature of Google Trends which is designed to show the "hottest" searches in the last hour.

These aren't the highest volume searches; these are the searches with the greatest growth in search volume over a very short period of time.

These keywords are not stable enough to build a web site around, but they can make excellent blog posts. Blog posts can be crawled and indexed very quickly, so a blog post made early in the "trend cycle" can be a great source for inbound links.

The Hot Trend detail page will show you a list of related search terms that you might optimize for. It will also show you when the peak of traffic for this trend occurred, so that you can see how far behind the curve you are. In addition, it will show you snippets from news articles which may help to explain why this keyword is a "hot trend".

Hot Trends is also available as an iGoogle Gadget and an Atom Feed.

Good post, Will. This feature is no doubt great but I believe, it'd be helpful for aggressive bloggers whose major income comes from adsense. They can simply pick up the best topic and draw good number of visitors with a small interesting post. And I'm sure, this kind of post can work as a link-bait post too because it'd be like a news or some interesting snippet in demand. So, Google hottrends can help in bringing some good backlinks, indirectly. Just my humble thought. And as you already commented that it'd wouldn't be a great idea to create a website targeting them. I share the same thoughts when I looked at it.

I check hot trends regulary, so as Google trends for some of my site keywords...

I had thoughts to make some general blog, and then everyday take 20 minutes to write one blogpost from google random hot trends...

I use Google trends on a pretty much a daily basis for a number of my blogs and every once in a while one will pay off but for the most part for this type of blogging you need to discover the hot trend before it makes it to the list for the most success

Google trends in pretty much useless for me, however when you click on "websites" is where I start to like this tool. Shows me exactly what keywords my competitors are getting most of their traffic from

It's a Nice tool. Earlier there was a tool name trendite which shows data about Yahoo too. But it's not working Now. I use Google hot trends 6 or 7 times a day.. I have a site on News and it helps me to know what people are searching right now and I post the news..

BTW Take a look at this image.. Do you think it was providing correct data on May 2...

In theory, if you could fool Google Hot Trends into thinking that a keyword related to your web site is a hot trend, you could convince bloggers across the Internet to write about your site.

You might do this by creating a high volume of automated search through proxy IP's...
