    Google Insights for Search

Google Insights for Search is a cute little tool which shows you the relative popularity of different search terms.

The attached image shows how "youtube" came out of nowhere and surpassed "google" in less than 18 months.

The numbers on the graph aren't "real", they are useful only to compare different search terms.

The tool lets you filter your search by geography, by time, or by search category.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the screen, you will see that the tool also show the top ten search term related to your keyword. It also shows the "rising" searches related to your keyword -- terms that you might want to optimize for before your competition does.

Yep it's an excellent tool, I still mostly use the old google trends version, but I should change the bookmark.

Both were developed in Google's R&D center in Haifa btw

Thank you Will, that is a spectacular find. We've just checked the major keyphrases my g/f's site is using and found a bunch of rising keywords that are less competitive and that she's already ranking for, so she plans more pages with those terms.

I'm going to try to make the time to review a large number of keyword research tools.

    This was only the first.

Can it be used effectively for judging approx number of monthly/yearly searches?

What can I judge from the numbers shown in the image attached?
( they display normalized data )

Need some time to handle deferred joining date by three big IT companies.

If your work is still pending, I'll soon get in touch.

I'd like to see review from u SEO Master about keywords tools at Keyword Research: Microsoft adCenter Labs . These are looking great but don't know how much accurate?

I would not hope for "accuracy" of the level required to effectively judge even approximate numbers of monthly or yearly searches from any of these tools. That's like staring at the Orion nebula with a pair of cheap binoculars.

The MSN tools are definitely good and are on the schedule.
