PR is important for a site in my view, it is not everything but it certainly is important.

If for example your personal blog is PR7 and you write an article based on certain keyphrases, you are most likely to be ranked very high for these terms.

One Man’s Blog - Specialization is for Insects. is a great example he posted this blog post: Buy Cheap Viagra And SEO - One Man’s Blog

and within days he ranked very high for buy cheap viagra and he kept the rankings for a long time. His website was in no way related to Viagra, but still the high PR of his blog makes it easy ot rank for whatever he wants.

The PR is not what is behind that. It's what is causing the PR that is causing that effect.

I second that, Will. I was about to comment on this but found your opinion already. Pagerank is of course Google's special authority to a web page. What I believe; you work, get quality backlinks and better online visibility. Google will award you with a good pagerank.

If I go just oppo. I have a pagerank and I dream of better online visibility.. that's ouchhhh....

What matters is selection of good and profitable keywords, a fair strategy of link building and their you go....

PR is important, but it's not everything. You also really need to look at things like the anchor text of inbound links and how relevant the pages giving the links are to the search query.
