Thread: The Keyword Crash Course

  1. The Keyword Crash Course

Courtney Tuttle of The Keyword Academy is giving away a thirty-one page ebook titled The Keyword Crash Course.

Just go to her blog, look in the upper right corner, enter an email address, and then press <Submit> to be taken to the download page.

It's a pretty good read. It's not the be-all end-all of keyword research guides, but you certainly can't beat the price!

Thanks Will. I will check this out for sure.

Just downloaded it. Thanks for the heads-up!

It's a great book, though I'm still looking for a book that REALLY tells you how to find those profitable niches.

Well Will, I might have found one last week as you know...

Cool, thanks Will. I'm gonna check it out!

Just finished reading, its a good ebook indeed.

She emphasizes quite a lot on PR. I wasn't aware that it has such an influence on SERP, or does it? Just realized I have to work a bit harder to get #1 for my selected keywords as there are a couple PR4 and 5s ahead.

A lot of people seem to think that PageRank doesn't affect the ranking of a site in the Google search results very much. Some people even say that PageRank has absolutely no effect on a website's position in the search results whatsoever! But of course it does. Why else would Google calculate PageRank? For fun? It's a bloody hard calculation and takes a lot of computer power (i.e. money)...

PageRank is a measure of a site's overall "importance", and is calculated based on how many other websites link to that site, and on how important those other websites doing the linking are. This almost sounds like circular reasoning, and indeed it is a very difficult mathematical problem. The solution was developed by Larry Page while he was studying for a Ph.D. at Stanford University (this is in fact why it is called PAGErank; it's just a coincidence that it deals with webPAGEs).

Just have a look at the Wikipedia entry!

So, when somebody searches Google for something, Google basically returns a list of websites in the results based on: (1) how relevant the sites are, and (2) how important those sites are (PageRank!). Google also consider (many) other factors, but PageRank is key. It is the reason that Google became the No. 1 search engine. PageRank is the entire foundation of Google!

That was the one area of the eBook where I most disagreed with the author.

PR is important, but it's not everything. You also really need to look at things like the anchor text of inbound links and how relevant the pages giving the links are to the search query.
