Thread: Keyword with many searches but low compitition

Hi Netbuilders,

There is a keyword that i Chose to build links for my site that has large volume of search but ultra low compitition(about 40000) Can I chose it to build links. THe first page results in Google are big sites ..atleast the first 4.

How many links do the big sites have with the keyword in the anchor text?

as Bogart said, look up the numbers of incoming links to the top 20 sites..also try to find out if the incoming are dofollow links or nofollow...a site may have 1000s links and that may put you off..but if they are nofollow then you do have a great chance..

Thanks for your replies...I am not sure how to check the number of links a site has for a particular keyword. Can someone help me on this

I would like to suggest you to install SEO4Firefox or SEOQuake add-on for this purpose. It would display SEO information of the domain you visit and of course includes the inbound links to the domain and page level.

I would suggest SEO Spyglass...its free version is enough to check up on your competitors.. All you need to do is to put the URL of your competitor and run it...

It will find the incoming links to the page..and then will examine each of those incoming links. It will check the anchor text, the PR of the page, the IP address, whether its do or nofollow..

Its a great software..

I never check 40000 things. I check top 10 result sites for the KW I choose. If I find all the top 10 spot sites are highly targetting the KW, like PR of sites, their backlinks, etc. then I will never bother choosing and will go for the next project.

No use checking for how many links a big site has!! when he says big its a clear idea they must be some article directories or social bookamarking sites or blogging pros like problogger or dailyblogging tips .You will need to borrow your neighbours PC to count their links ! there are hundreds of crores of links. Dont try to rank for a generic keyword, try to hit for a long tail keyword . read this will surely help

Open Site Explorer: Link Popularity & Backlink Analysis Tool is a good tool to check the backlinks to a website.

Hmm, I say go for it if the keyword has large search volume and ultra low competition I wouldn't care about the top sites if I had this kind of data to go by.
