    Strange Bing Dealings

So, found something strange today going through the stats of one of my sports sites trying to determine the source of a traffic surge over the past few weeks...
all of a sudden, I'm seeing a huge jump in traffic for a highly competitive keyphrase that I was NOT targeting yet...only thing I did was include it in some bookmarking tags on the page in question (yup was not a post).

Turns out I am ranking about #88 for the keyphrase in Google...in Bing I'm number 1. No clue why (not that I'm complaining)...

Just thought it was interesting. Maybe its time to not ignore Bing anymore...just don't know what to do SEO-wise different (if anything) to try to get ranked there beyond registering sites on Bing Webmaster tools maybe? Any Bing experts out there Anyone else seeing Bing traffic surges? This is the only site I've seen something out of the ordinary for me with Bing. May just be a fluke I guess.

    Cheers,
    James

Interesting experience. I don't have a very good experience with Bing even if I am page 1 for some nice competitive keywords in Bing. keep watching for how many days you're on #1 and for how long. It can be a nice debate as to what pleased Bing.

Yahoo is now powered by Bing. So, Bing/Yahoo is around 20% of search. Plus there's also the portal traffic from the Yahoo/MSN pages which is good for some niches like sports, celebrities and news.

That's a HUGE difference. Can you share the keywords? Maybe we can learn something from this...

I know. I'm doing a daily track on that and the Google rank to see if Google SERPs eventually track to meet Bing or if they remain disparate. I haven't seen a similar effect on any of my other sites though, so figure this may just be a one-off. Maybe my new registration on Bing Webmaster tools will give me some insights If so, will share.
    Cheers,
    James

    James,
Thanks for the PM. I should also have asked if the search is in the US or elsewhere (i.e. Germany), but I'm going to look into it.

I'm thinking its some kind of Facebook/Twitter tie-in that is just not obvious. Search is primarily US. Nothing worth sharing yet though.
