What do you think should be the minimum search volume for a KW phrase?

What do you think should be the minimum search volume for a KW phrase that will make you think that it will be worth targeting for??

I have seen people say that search volumes of 500/month are viable..some say 1000/month..

    what do you reckon?

I think there is no rule. In certain niches 500/month will be extra good while in some niches 80k would not be a something special...

As a rule of thumb, go where the money is.

There's a reason that some keywords are more competitive than others.

I agree. A very popular product search term -with thousands or more searches a month- can be something cheap like t-shirts. Or, a rare and very expensive product or service with just a few searches per month.

It depends on yourself, your interests and how you handle your sales leads.

I do not understand the question?

Are you asking about opening a new site, posting articles with certain keywords,,,, or something else?

I guess he wants to know the optimum/(minimum amount of) search volume which makes a keyword worth targeting.

I think i'll have to agree with Hellas a bit on this one. Another thing that needs to be considered is the fact that the search volume is directly proportional to the competition which in turn is directly proportional to the amont of time it'll take for you to actually get up the SERPs fr that particular keyword.

I think that at least 40k is good for consideration. If you become first on Google for that keyword you will have 30-40% of all traffic which is very good statistic...

It depends on what your goals are. 40k is a decent number for a publisher whereas an affliate site can do quite well with 10% of the search volume.
