sitemap.xml should do the work for you
currently use wp sitemap generator with two sitemap (xml and xml.gz), my question is should i submit both sitemap to google webmaster tool or either one only ?
cause my Mr. G webmaster tool show below static :
sitemap.xml = submit url 39058 -- index url : 14245
sitemap.xml.gz = submit url 39085 -- index url : 14245
but google = site:malaysiacar.org show 34100 url index.
There is no difference between .xml and .xml.gz other than the fact that .gz uses less bandwidth.
The search engines won't show any preference for either one, but I believe that Google automatically detects .xml.gz first to help save you some resources, but if you don't have it, it just uses .xml
Google also recommends, however, that you have an xml sitemap and an HTML sitemap for visitors. See this:
Submit the sitemap, and then submit the RSS feed from your site. Just incase something happens to the sitemap, google will be able to grab something.
Its been about a year ago, I changed some settings on my sitemap - which caused it to stop working. Over the course of 2 months, google delisted about 250,000 of my pages.
By using the RSS feed as a sitemap, you have 2 separate scripts feeding information to your google account.
FeedBurner isn't a sitemap. It's an RSS tool. But as someone above mentioned, submitting both is good.
However, I don't think you can submit a FeedBurner URL in the Webmaster Panel. Try the Wordpress RSS.
Take a look at these to see the differences:
Feedburner RSS: http://feeds.feedburner.com/RunningOnlineBusiness
Wordpress RSS: http://www.runningonlinebusiness.com/feed
When you submit /feed to your Google Webmaster Tools Panel, it will be registered and you'll see 'Format: RSS Feed'
If you submit your sites RSS feed as a sitemap, be sure to check the number of articles to be listed in your feed. I have mine set to 10. That way google gets 10 URLs everytime it grabs the feed. 10 URLs may not sound like a lot, but its better then nothing.
