Thread: Ads impressions - confused!

I'm confused with my ads impression on my blog My Loans Consolidated

I'm running WP Ads rotator plugin on the top sidebar of the site. It's the 300x250 ad next to the "Headline News" box. The ads are shown site-wide.

Google Adsense impression is rotating with an affiliate banner for debt consolidation using the WP Ads plugin.

First day I installed the debt consolidation ad, I got 590 ads impressions, as shown in the WP Ads plugin. But the statistics in my affiliate account says it showed only 59 impressions.

Even for Google Adsense, the WP Ads rotator plugin shows that it got 197 ads impression that day but in my Google Adsense account it says only 28 impressions.

When I checked my Awstats for that day, it says that I had:

318 visitors
1161 page views
3958 hits

What confuses me is how come the ads impressions stated in my Google Adsense account and in my debt consolidation affiliate account are so low, while I actually got way more visitors?

From my experience adsense and the like are only counting unique impressions.

AWStats reports page impressions, not ad impressions.

If a web robot (Googlebot, Yahoo! Slurp, etc...) visits your web page with, it counts as a page impression, but not as an ad impression.

Do the page impressions showed by Awstat really include 'views' by robots? Because in the summary of Awstat views by robots are distinguished from the rest, using "Viewed Traffic" and "Not viewed traffic"?

From the AWStats FAQ:

AWStats is able to detect robots visits. Most analyzers think robots visits are human visitors. This error make them to report more visits and visitors than reality. When AWStats reports a "1 visitor", it means "1 human visitor" (even if it's not posible to detect all robots, most of them are detected). "Robots visitors" are reported separately in the "Robots/Spiders visitors" chart.

So, but what does it mean then, now I'm still confused about why my ads impressions are not the same as the page impressions in Awstat?

If a user with Javascript turned off browses your page, it will count as a page impression, but not an ad impression.

Visits from robots not included in AWStats list of known robots will count as page impressions, but not as ad impressions.

If Google displays a PSA (Public Service Ad) instead of a paying ad, it will count as a page impression, but not an ad impression. (I believe -- Google has not publicly stated either way.)

If someone is browsing your site with an ad blocker, it will count as a page impressions but might not count as an ad impression. (I've been meaning to test this, but have not done so.)

The site was pretty slow loading from here - I understand that awstats counts the number of pages called from the server, but adsense will only count ads actually loaded, so if lots of people get bored waiting and hit the back arrow, awstats think you had an impression but adsense don't.
