Best Way to Insert ClickBank Link

What's the best way to insert a ClickBank Hop Link into a monetized page?

    • Directly
    • Masked e.g. go/myclickbank
    • Via a URL shortening service such as bit.ly

When I say "best way", I mean for SEO of the page, conversion etc.

The anchor text would be like: "Stop Your Dog Embarrassing You In Public" for example but the link is to a ClickBank product.

I've seen most of the salespages doing something like this:
    http://their.website.com/go/NAME OF PRODUCT

So I guess that should be the best way

I prefer masking the link or shortening it.
From a SEO standpoint, all three are almost the same however from a viewer/visitor standpoint, it makes a difference.

An experienced user normally hovers over the link and looks at the status bar for the URL. In such cases they tend to not click on any affiliate URLs expecting the fact that they would have to buy something.
To avoid this you could use URL shortening services, which again would make users skeptical or the best way is to cloak the links using Javasript.

    Here's how you do it.
As far as the Webmaster guidelines about cloaking are concerned, they don't mention anything about this kind of link cloaking. You may want to take a second look though, i doubt it can be harmful from a Seo standpoint.

Maybe by using a direct link you are covering the affiliate disclosure requirements (by the FCC) for US-based affiliates?

I normally use .htaccess to redirect from a go/product-id style url like I started doing many years ago promoting the google cash ebook or maybe I used goto, can't remember.

But now I like the idea of experimenting with other ways.

"recommends" as a url stub seems like a good idea that I have seen used by some marketers since that ties in with the recommendation post that the marketer made.

Also, I have seen a subdomain used such as "best.domain.com" for a global link to an affiliate offer.
