On my adult blog, I'm currently getting traffic first. As soon as I hit a steady 1000 unique visitors daily, I'll be starting put on some advertisements. But still no popups or other annoying advertisement. Sites with tons of popups and advertisements will NEVER EVER make it to the top ;)
You should give first, before you get!
125's work for me. My site went a year without ads, and after adding them I check the visitor bounce rate a month later. They actually helped reduce the bounce. I can only expect the reasoning for this is because it is what visitors expect, and it may even add to your authority level. Spam blogs don't have banners right? They just use G ads.
Have you done extra promotion after adding the banners or not? It's strange that the bounce rate would get better because of the ads -- Ofcourse it's possible due to the memberbase visiting your site daily over and over again. But from the message I read above, I can only make this:Quote:

In all honesty I don't know why it went down after adding them. It wasn't substantial. My best guess is that it simply really doesn't make a difference as long as it doesn't interfere with the user experience.
This is true. The way in which you arrange the banners is a factor in how irritating the user finds them. Google ads are usually intrusive, whereas banners can be made to blend into the websites, and even the design of the banners themselves can make them look more professional to users.Quote:

I say get it to a point where you think you could charge $5+ per 125 ad, and never ever use Advertise here banners all over...they are the most off-putting thing. Take this for an example:
If you go to China and on opposite sides of the road there are two resteraunts. One is empty and one is full, which do you choose? It's a similar concept for advertising, if you have lots of Advertise Here it means other prospective advertisers haven't taken interest in your blog.
