But consider this: You sell 5 ad spots on your website (125x125 button), and you charge $100/ad. You will make $500/month. Make five websites like this, and you will earn $2.5K/month.

Of course, you would need high traffic website to do this. No one is going to buy ads from low traffic website.

And its not that hard to find advertisers. You just have to know how. Don't wait for them to find you. That is just not going to happen, exept if you are on "make money online" niche. Though it is good to have "advertise with us" page on your website.

This is the way I make money from info websites. Works pretty well.

Less parties involved = more money to you.
In other words: Screw ad networks!
I couldn't agree more, everything you've said makes 100% sense. I run a pretty popular website with a few 125x125 ad blocks, I'm hoping to have a total of 8 spaces and sell them for $350-$400/mo. That would give me a total of around $3,000/mo from just my blog, which would be some decent profits

That's a good revenue stream on one site. It would be really hard to match that with publishing.

That would be quite awesome, but judging by the prices I see on buysellads.com pretty hard too. Unless you have alexa under 10k or a high end niche

On a highend niche with 150k page views a month the rate is around $300.

You'll need a lot of high quality content which is expensive to produce due to the technical knowledge required.

I recently created the Law of Selling Direct Ad Space - a universal truth.

If you email 10 people asking them directly to buy ad space (with of course a little side-chat), at least 1 will say yes. I've tried it on several occasions, and my recent try has gotten me sold 2 ad spots, 1 "I will buy it in the future", and 1 argument

Cool, I'm planning to do that at the end of the month. I think that's when companies already have a set up advertising budget and are ready to review offers.

Wonder if I can get something similar on a not so high end niche, but with 1.5M views per month.

Well I did try on that method before but it didn't work out as I realize one need to have high amount of traffic before advertisers are willing to fork out money to get the space. This is something I really need to work on.
