Angry The most uncommon ways to monetize your site

This thread was inspired from DailyBlogTips and DoshDosh.

    Widget advertising
The latest trend on the web are widgets that let you monetize your website. Examples include Widgetbucks and SmartLinks. Some of these services operate under a PPC scheme, others behave like text link ads, others yet leverage affiliate links.
Their main differentiator, however, is the fact that they work as web widgets, making it easier for the user to plug and play the service on its website.
Under this category falls another great plugin for your Wordpress blog called AdIcons. Unfortunately, the original develloper's site is now dead, but you can still view a cached version of it (http://web.archive.org/web/200710180...-for-wordpress). You can learn more about it (and download) at http://wpluxe.com/2008/03/19/adicon-...lugin-download.

    RSS Feed Ads
With the quick adoption of the RSS technology by millions of Internet users, website owners are starting to find ways to monetize this new content distribution channel.
Feedburber already has its own publisher network, and you can sign-up to start displaying CPM based advertising on your feed footer. Bidvertiser recently introduced a RSS feed ad option as well, with a PPC scheme.
Finally, some blogs are also opting to sell banners or sponsored messages on their feed directly. John Chow and Marketing Pilgrim are two examples.

Sponsors for Single Columns or Events
If your website has specific columns or events (e.g., a weekly podcast, an interview series, a monthly survey, a special project) you could find companies to sponsor them individually.
This method increases the monetization options for website owner, while giving advertisers the possibility to target a more specific audience and with a reduced commitment.
Mashable illustrates the case well. They have several advertising options on the site, including the possibility to sponsor specific columns and articles, including the “Daily Poll” and the “Web 2.0 Invites.”
Problogger also runs group writing projects occasionally, and before proceeding he publicly announce the project asking for sponsors.

    Sell Ads in Email Newsletters
This is for webmasters who have their own opt-in mailing list of interested visitors/readers. Selling sponsored advertorials or links for highly relevant products can not only add value to your list readers but provide a source of revenue.
Affiliate marketers, especially love advertising on email newsletters/lists because it reaches a very targeted audience who are already pre-sold on specific topics, products and services. If you want to start building your own email list, I highly recommend using AWeber, one of the best autoresponders and newsletter managers in the market.

    Offer Content Sponsorship Opportunities
For bloggers, this type of ad allows advertisers to sponsor specific blog posts. The sponsored content usually appear in the form of a sentence with a link, either before or after a post. Advertisers like this type of advertising because it allows them to target specific content.
If you have a particular blog post that receives a high volume of daily traffic or has a large number of incoming links, you can charge a higher rate for this specific page. Remember to vary your pricing according to the popularity of specific blog posts.
For general websites, content sponsorship allows advertisers to publish an entire Press release/advertorial, article or video about their product or service on your website. As much as possible, try to make sure that the content used should be relevant to your site.

    Paid Surveys and Polls
There are services that will pay you money to run a small survey or poll on your website. The most popular one is called Vizu Answers.
Basically you need to sign up with them, and select the kind of polls that you want to run your site. Most of these services operate under a CPM model.

The selling of ads on E-mail newsletters interests me the most. I am looking for other ways to increase income, and this sounds like a good idea. But how are we able to pull e-mail address from a forum?

AdIcon looks fun! I'm going to test this out on one of my blogs! It reminds me of the old website I owned with the 1milliondollar script where people could buy pixels

Such a type of ads could mean some extra money (not too much, but something is better than nothing!)
