Hey everyone.
I'm trying to sell advertising on my forum, but I haven't the slightest idea where to begin. Currently I'm just rotating ad networks and the revenue is definitely under what I would expect.
So where do I begin? Should I contact random websites and tell them about the opportunity? Post on webmaster forums? I really am lost here.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Normally you would contact companies in your niche, but with a general purpose debate and discussion forum you may be screwed.
Your "niche" is an ad targeting nightmare.

Aw man, that's awfully depressing news. Though, it is also totally understandable.
There must be someone who wouldn't mind advertising on a general discussion/debate forum.
The unfortunate thing is that I just can't imagine who that someone would be. Well, I'll continue my search.

Maybe look at other general chat forums and see who is advertising there?
He's 100% right. The only thing I can think of is to use different banners (only on CPA - never CPM) for different (sub)forums, so that a Heath forum could have teeth whitening offers and a gaming forum Gaming Consoles offers.Quote:

Or wait until the forum gets ridiculously big and then sell sponsorships for different sections. For the health section, find a sponsor or two. For the political section, find a sponsor or two. However, to do that, you'll need to have a really large forum.
