Thread: Are you a Mogul?

Hey everyone, I just came across that article on John Chow's blog and I found it quite interesting, but funny at the same time.

It is about the requirements you need to fullfill in order to be considered as a Dot Com Mogul.

To be considered a Dot Com Mogul you must meet all the follow requirements.

• Your income is made from the Internet
• The minimum Internet income level is $10,000 per month (you can not add income from other sources to hit this $10K level)
• You have no jobs outside of the Internet
• You have a personal blog with your name as the domain name
• Your blog must be updated at least once per week
• A Google search of your name must be at the #1 spot
• You must be willing to help dot com mogul wannabes

I believe this is John's own opinion (I don't think there is any list like that on Wikipedia).

But do you think it is accurate? And by any chance, is anyone meeting the requirements yet?

For my part, I believe it is [accurate], but no, I'm nowhere near the 'Mogul' title.

John Chow does not rank #1 in Google anymore for "John Chow". His twitter and other sites outranked him.

But since the John Chow twitter is no.1, i think john chow no take a problem about this. But it's very shock when johnchow.com is not listed even in page 1. But the stat of PR, subscriber, follower, etc in him site is still good. i think johnchow still a mogul but he is not meet some point of mogul characteristic

Excellent point Gloson, although John Chow does rank #1 for his name... only it's his twitter page.

Google has sandboxed johnchow.com because he was buying and selling links.
So nobody is safe from Google's wrath! :P

(and for those of you who wonder what does 'sandbox' mean, I'll cover this soon enough in the SEO guide.

I'm shocked when know people like john chow have this problem (simple problem which commonly done by NEWBIE).

Maybe john show is no longer mogul anymore, and maybe he is embarrased when he read him own article about mogul.

To become pure mogul is so hard, the charateristic is so far with me and i think it's too much. The hardest thing is my minimum earning should be $10,000 per month.

No, I think John Chow is a 'mogul'. The Twitter page is kind of his anyway... he maintains it and it's all about him: it's practically his site. Just like twitter.com/teenius is kind of mine and twitter.com/farrhad is kind of Farrhads

And, as for me, no, I'm not a mogul. Although that would be cool, and I am working towards it... Come back when I'm 20 and we'll see where I am

LOL. I think his article on the things you need to accomplish to be a mogul is outdated. It is written in 2006! I hope he read that article again.

Well, when he mentioned about ranking #1 for your name, I think he meant your blog, not twitter. So now, he is a half mogul, I guess.
