Chinese ordered to smoke more to boost economy

The edict, issued by officials in Hubei province in central China, threatens to fine officials who "fail to meet their targets" or are caught smoking rival brands manufactured in neighbouring provinces.
Even local schools have been issued with a smoking quota for teachers, while one village was ordered to purchase 400 cartons of cigarettes a year for its officials, according to the local government's website.

Smart. They will die anyway (smokers), why not make some money on them before they do?

They are trying to thin down the population. 1.35 billion is too many.

Nonsmokers don't exist. Even if you personally don't smoke someone whom you know does and by that you are kinda smoking too. It's not active smoking but you are inhaling all those bad things too (when they smoke close to you). So nonsmokers are actually "passive" smokers. And I don't think "few" cigarettes would change (much) time of their final hour.

Nonsmokers do exist, at birth we are all nonsmokers. You aren't really exposed to smoke unless your parents smoked or if you live in an area where smoking is common in public places.

A few could well make your life a living hell. Don't forget there are people on this planet that one cig could kill them instantly especially if you have Asthma or an allergy to an ingredient in cigarettes.

Yes, but can you keep everyone away just because they smoke? Can you keep your guard up all the time? Run away whenever someone lights up cigarette?

That's really a crazy idea, more people will get sick because of more smoking and they have to spend more money threating them
