Thread: Connecticut mass shooting tragedy

Nice info provided by Bob Barr over at V7n. I plan to pull this one out every time some Euro-snob tries to say the US is just a land of violent cowboys who lack their civilized approach to allowing only the government to possess firearms:

When it comes to the question of violent crime, the British are fairly smug. Why? Because, well, there’s less of it in Britain than in America. Bunch of cowboys over there, right?

    Wrong. Per the Daily Mail:

Britain’s violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.

Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa – widely considered one of the world’s most dangerous countries.

The Tories said Labour had presided over a decade of spiralling violence.

In the decade following the party’s election in 1997, the number of recorded violent attacks soared by 77 per cent to 1.158million – or more than two every minute.

According to the Mail, Britons suffer 1,158,957 violent crimes per year, which works out at 2,034 per 100,000 residents. By contrast the number in notoriously violent South Africa is 1,609 per 100,000.

    The U.S., meanwhile, has a rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, which is lower than France’s, at 504; Finland’s, at 738; Sweden’s, at 1123; and Canada’s at 935.
Here's a shot of the UK Daily Mail article from 2009. The most violent country in Europe: Britain is also worse than South Africa and U.S. | Mail Online

Nice find. Thanks for the info.

I am surprised to see Canada that high up on the list.

According to a friend who lives in London, England has over 600,000 illegal immigrants, which are mostly Islamist extremists and perpetual malcontents from Arab and Persian countries. He said there are roving Islamist gangs that are mugging people throughout London, but there is little that people can do about it because it is illegal to own firearms. Most London cops now carry firearms (Bobbies traditionally did not carry firearms), but they are spread too thin to do much about the problem.

Perhaps Brits need to band together with their cricket bats and corner some of the bad guys in the alleys. When the police cannot handle the job, vigilante justice has been known to scare the crap out of the bad guys.

My friend also mentioned that although traditionally Christian for the last thousand years, England now has more mosques than churches.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the crime statistics based on ethnicity of the attackers.

well working in tourism in europe i can tell you that english tourists when drunk are the most violent customers BY FAR. Lots of repressed anger. Maybe coming to think of it, it's quite good not many of them have guns or things could get worse

Bad behavior is one of the consequences when you drink warm beer.

Beer is piss only if you drink that crap bulk stuff made by the biggies like busch, miller, etc.

Once you start on good local craft beers you will never drink the mass produced crap again.

And some local brews really do taste better warm.

    No, God made scotch.

They show their kids Al Gore's global warming movie in school.

They had to take a few of the fabricated "science" out though, because some of the kids' parents complained and didn't want them to get bamboozled too much.

I think Belgian beer is the best. Was in a Belgian bar a few months ago and their beer was amazing. Also expensive.

Well, actually "expensive" is relative and I have probably been spoiled by my local bar where half a liter runs 80 cents.

I never really cared much for a pint of warm British ale. When I traveled a lot I learned to order beer in over 20 languages. My favorite brewski was always a good German pilsner, which is usually made by a local brewery. A good pils is smooth as silk. Every time I checked into a hotel in Germany, my first stop after dumping off my gear was to the hotel bar. "Ein pils, bitte!" I never understood a word that the barkeep said after that, but he knew what I wanted.

I never developed a taste for scotch. Jack, yes. Scotch, no.
