There is no way for the government to stop this unless they outlaw guns made out of a certain percentage of plastic. The law could be similar to the law regarding silencers. Example: Make it illegal to build or possess a firearm made from more than 95% non-metallic materials. It has always been easy to find plans for building silencers. It is not illegal to write or possess plans. It is only illegal to build or possess a silencer.
The gun in the video is not something that anyone could take to a slaughter, nor could it be used for defense. There are some things about that test firing that were not revealed to the media.
1. It is a single shot and will only fire a low-velocity round. In other words, it cannot withstand very much muzzle pressure.
2. It can only be used once because the barrel becomes distorted after the first shot due to heat.
3. It is way too bulky to conceal.
4. It is currently not any more reliable than a flintlock.
I could make a better 1-shot firearm out of a piece of pipe, a spring and some simple machining. This was called a zip gun in the 1960s and 1970s. I once had a zip gun. Guys used to make them in shop classes when I was in high school. My dad was a cop years ago and he once confiscated a single shot handgun made from an old metal cap pistol that was originally a kid's toy. Where there is a will, there is a way.
The current design won't do anything useful. Presumably, the materials used in 3D imaging will improve over time and it may be possible to build a useful weapon.
Don't forget that Obama has requested the right to shut down the Internet if he decides to declare an emergency. It will get shut down if the government drives us into another revolution.
