How do we measure the effectively of a religion?

    Hi Friends,

when we judge a religion are we not supposed to judge it by its followers and how they behave?. If we take one religion agents the other and if we find followers of one religion are involved more in terror and removing communical harmoney is it not fare for us coclude that that religion is not effective in bring the human in man? and so work towards rejecting its teaching however logically sound it is?. I not specificaly targeting Islam out here I am only asking a intellectual question.

  2. by the scriptures they've been reading whether these anceint scriptures is still as is from the beginning of time or whether its been altered. islam promotes peace ever since. take a look at the scholar Zakir Naik in Youtube

Yes and no. Do you really think that religious people should now be saints? Do everything good and right?

Or perhaps they are on the road, struggling to try and put their lives into the place they think it ought to be, with God's help. So they are not perfect, but striving towards that goal. Now some of that should show, but human frailty always creeps in.

    IRA in Northern Ireland (Christian)
Now one of the mistakes in your argument is that what looks is OK. But that is just not true, the IRA were infact from the Catholic areas of Northern Ireland, but that made them no more Christian or indeed often Catholic than an atheist. Let us not make the mistake of believing either that because people come from an ethnic group that they believe in that religion or that because someone claims a religious title, like Muslim or Christian, that they represent any of the real views of that religious grouping. Sadly it is why very peaceful, law abiding Muslims are being attacked by people who cannot or will not see that stereotyping is plain stupid.

There is a very big difference between when members of a terrorist group belong to a particular religion and when terrorist acts are committed in the name of that religion.

Islam gets a bad rap because Islamic terrorists commit their acts in the name of Islam and because of the distorted teachings that they follow. Most other terrorist organizations are actually political in nature and are not committing the acts because of their religious beliefs. The other groups that Menj mentions are political terrorists, not religious terrorists.

So if the IRA had SAID they were Catholic that would mean that we can then start hating all Catholics?

Are you seriously saying that when someone CLAIMS an allegiance with a religion that we have to believe them, even take that claim seriously?

Any idiot can make any claim to be affiliated with anything.

I f I committed terrorist acts in the name of Catholicism only give them any credence when the Pope publicly supports it.

The only support from the Muslim religious leaders for the terrorism is from those religious leaders who are as extreme as the so called Muslims who undertake the atrocities and are typically condemned by decent Muslim leaders.
Muslims everywhere consider all acts of terrorism that aims to murder and maim innocent human beings utterly reprehensible and abhorrent. There is no theological basis whatsoever for such acts in our faith. The very meaning of the word 'Islam' is peace. It rejects terror and promotes peace and harmony.

The words in the Qur'an are clear:

If anyone kills a human being, unless it be (in punishment) for murder, or of spreading corruption in the land, it should be looked upon as though he had slain all mankind, and if anyone saves a life it should be regarded as though he had saved the lives of all mankind.(5:32)
