UK to cut 500,000 public sector jobs will be lost

The UK plans to cut up to 500k public sector jobs.
UK government stakes its future on austerity plan - Yahoo! News

I wonder what would happen if the US government announced 3 million job cuts based on the US having 5x the population.

What we see riots like the ones occurring in France.

I was laughing on what I just heard on FoxNews.

The NJ Turnpike union workers get a bonus for working on their birthdays, an anniversary bonus, a snow shoveling bonus of between $1,000 and $1,700. The bonuses total $30 million.

As part of the union contract there was even 10k for a company event. No one showed up

I like how the UK is building 2 new aircraft carriers but has no plans for planes to fly on them until 2019....Harriers getting cut, no other a/c available until the UK JSF is ready....guess everyone is just relying on the U.S. navy for any big problems.

I wonder what will happen in the US should the government cut spending. The US national debt has already grown 50% to $15 trillion under Obama in two years.

The number of people in the US living on public assistance has surpassed the number of people working

The two new carriers are conventional carriers that will fly eurofighters.

The way the world is going the UK is going to need the carriers.

Hmmm, did the UK switch from the F35B acquisition?
Military News - F-35B to replace the RAF's Harrier jump jet

If they do pull off cutting so deep, will the other European nations follow suit you think? SHould be interesting.

Conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy insists he has no choice but to overhaul the money-losing pension system and says raising retirement age is vital to ensuring that future generations receive any pension at all.
The US is going to get ugly. Either is going to be communists rioting in the streets or Nazis marching down Broadway after the dollar crashes.

It make the French then that are going to the Eurofighter. The UK doesn't really have any carriers. What they are using now are equivalent to the US Amphibious assault ships. The US has something like 23 amphibious assault ships and 12 super carriers.

The US amphibious assault ships can base both helicopters and harriers.

Nah man, Eurofighter == RAF Tornado replacement, F-35 == Harrier...if they actually buy and deploy them at this point.

Navy aircraft carrier will be sold after three years - and never carry jets - Telegraph

    f. Eurofighter is looking into future variants that can land on carriers, but is currently more focused on enhancing its existing capabilities. Even though it has an arrestor hook, it is for emergency runway landings if the brakes/parachute fail.

Their current carriers are actually smaller than our LHA/LHDs...

Planning to mothball the 2nd carrier at this point likely means it will fail to be built.

    SHould be interesting to watch.

It's possible that they sell the carrier to Australia. Both Australia and Canada are doing well on the commodities and agricultural exports. Both are lightweights militarily and not carrying their weight.

Australia needs to balance the Chinese Navy and Canada is facing challenges in the Arctic.

I wonder how long the US can continue maintaining a 7 Seas Navy and a large land force considering the massive US national debt.

The US will need the Army to out down the riots and 12 divisions isn't really not much considering the size of the US.

Los Angeles alone has 100,000 gang members and who knows how many communists.
