Thread: US Stimulus package

  1. #11
Unions are the workers version of the idiocy at the top. In both cases you have people that are compensated beyond the contribution they make to the bottom line.

American Airlines is an example of this kind of waste both above and below... with baggage handlers stealing from both the public and the company while management gets concessions from employees then awards themselves fat bonuses for "productivity"... wasting the gains made by the concessions on themselves. The stockholder is an afterthought. American is always on the verge of going under... what a shock.

Meanwhile little employee-owned Southwest remains profitable in thick or thin. There's something to be said for looking at models that actually work, not just sticking with the one easiest to steal from. We dont need to keep feeding the same stupid bloated failed models, we need to re-work the ideas. It is insanity to just throw money at what has already proven to NOT work... but Congress isnt looking for solutions so much as keeping their contributors liquidity intact.

The people who paid so much for the Obamessiah to be elected demand to be repaid for their generous "donations."

This is the RoI all those people were looking for when they invested money in the Obama campaign.

Think of this as campaign finance reform. All of Obama's campaign costs have now been absorbed by the American taxpayer.

The answer is "B". The auto companies are corrupted beyond repair. Doing "A" retains most of the errors.
So you're basically saying US cars suck compared to European and Japanese, so the best thing to do is restart it?
Then I'm very curious as to how and why you think that happened, the deterioration of US cars industry.

Isn't that going to be a serious blow to US competitiveness in general and in the cars market? It's going to be pretty hard to build large car manufacturing companies again.

The "60 minutes" program showed that a US car cost $75/hour while Toyota was $12/hour. That migt be it I guess...

To the Dems in charge, it is not a matter of saving the auto companies. It's a matter of saving the unions. The unions provided millions in support for their campaigns.

US auto companies cannot compete with Japanese manufacturers due to the unions. Japanese intentionally put manufacturing facilities in non-union areas of the country to avoid the high cost of unions. The biggest part of the auto manufacturers problem is the huge, lucrative pension accounts that are not funded. If the auto manufacturers go under, that liability can be transferred to US taxpayers through a government program called the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., which is currently underfunded.

Government May Next Bailout the Fed Program that is Supposed to Bail Out Failed Pension Funds

The second part of the problem is salaries for senior auto workers that are second only to the salaries of airline pilots. The Dems only cite the salary for entry level auto workers. That is not where the problem lies. People practically kill for those jobs and they never leave until retirement.

The entire structure of the auto industry needs to be revised and restructured to bring it in line with the global markets, but that would mean reducing costs and union salaries.

Raise your hand if you think that is likely to happen with the current gaggle of idiots in charge.

It amazes me (no it doesn't) that when Reagan cut taxes and increased spending to get us out of a long recession, that was called Reaganomics and was idiotic. When Bush cut taxes and increased spending to avoid an impending recession, that was irresponsible and damaging to the economy. But when Obama and the Dems do the same thing to a degree never seen in the history of the planet, they are saviors and are proactively moving the country in the right direction.

It will take generations to pay off the debt created by the stimulus package. The main beneficiaries will be the people who helped put this bunch of morons in charge.

The good news is that the world is scheduled to end on December 21, 2012, so I will not have to pay my share.

I just heard that the Dems are proposing a second stimulus package of $480 billion.

Isn't there enough wasteful spending the first stimulus package? Didn't they feed enough money to the liberal special interest programs?

We are also about to commit $900 million to help rebuild Gaza. WTF!

Where do these drunken sailors in our Congress think this money is going to come from?

I agree. $900 millions for Gaza. WTF! Like there is not enough to do in the US.
And it's alarming to see all these bail out, just to try fixing the huge holes made by the last administration. It's way too deep, so let it be fix by itself, with time...

Many of those holes were created by the Democrats in charge of the regulation of our financial institutions. Both Bush and McCain called for increased regulation in 2004 when the cracks started to appear. The Democrats in charge fought against it.

In this country, committees in the Congress and Senate are in charge of oversite. Bush cannot be blamed for everything. Democrats are in charge of many of the most critical committies, and regardless of whatever they do, the President gets the blame and he has no direct control over them.

The stimulus is not likely to be anything other than a spending spree for the Democrats. We do not have the money to pay for this, and other countries are no longer purchasing our debt. The reality is that the current administration is very likely making a bad economic situation much worse.

Last night Obama blamed Bush for over a trillion dollar deficit that he claims to have inherited. Yet, Obama is directly responsible for about one-third of that deficit due his stimulus package. He also claims he will cut the deficit in half by 2012. But that is half of the record deficit that he helped create. That gives him and the Democrats three years to spend us into oblivion using money that we do not have, and then try to look good in the last year.

If you think things have changed because we have a better pitchman in office, think again. In many ways, they are about to get much worst.

Every promise that Obama makes has a "trick" escape clause. You have to listen carefully to what he says.

"The stimulus package will save or create 3.5 million jobs." It is not possible to determine how many jobs are saved, so that number can be anything they want it to be. If no jobs are created, they will claim to have saved 3.5 million jobs.

Last night Obama said he has identified cuts that will save $2 trillion over the next 10 years. Why use 10 years? It's because it makes it sound like a bigger number, and he cannot be blamed when the cuts do not happen.

Obama will have about 6 months to Blame Bush for everything. After that, the blame is going to shift to him. The fact is that Bush is not responsible for most of the things that are wrong. Both political parties share the blame for the situation we are in.

Obama gives a great pitch, but in the long term, he will be judged based upon results.

More welfare for shoddy run cooperation's are needed. The treasury department should start printing money inside GM plants and ghettos. Then general population can go by and scoop up what they want.
