Thread: War on Terror

I've yet to figure out how your misplaced hatred of Bush lead you to believe Mexico is a wealthy country, that one eludes me. Have you noticed a lot of Americans wading the Rio to go take menial jobs in Mexico so they can send money home to the family?

In this thread you tell us you hate Bush, in the other you're going on about male genitalia. Do you by chance have a large collection of Streisand CDs and an affinity for showtunes?

    It seems it amazes you
I don't hate Bush, he's just an idiot who has ruined this country in no time...
My first time in Mexico was really pleasant, but at $19 a domino's medium pizza, that country is expensive as hell. And on the other hand, the Wal Mart, twice bigger than my Local supercenter, you could find 3 or 4 times more products than here and way cheaper. Go figure.
And seeing all these americans getting jobs there was beyond my thought about the country. They get you in english first when they see you white as an aspirine! I always imagined Mexico as one of the poorest country around. I really got that one wrong!
US $43 taxi from the airport to the hotel: about 7 miles. I talked to the guy ( I speak spanish) and his salary is about 110,000 pesos/month (you have to divide by about 12 to get the US $$). This taximan has 3 times my own salary!
Now, my wife is asking all these tanned people in spanish what the hell are they doing here!!!
So I guess the people coming here are the poorest between the poorest.
We actually like Mexico enough to consider buying an oceanfront house there. We have put one under contract at $75,000. A bit high for the region but in move in condition. We plan to rent it to US people for about $250/night and use it 3-4 times a year ourselves.
I was a bit reluctant because of the security. I had that idea in mind since ever (security and poverty indeed), but we had no problem whatsoever. Even my wallet, forgotten on the beach, came back to my hotel room. Amazing...
Well, as you can read, we had a good time...
Oh, and one trick, if you speak spanish, tell you are from Spain, and you'll be a friend forever...Not sure why but works very well...
Also, the internet at the hotel, at $17/hour...Forget it...

I can pass as Mexican with no trouble, but they wont believe my bastardized TexMex came from Spain.

I stayed a month in Mexico city when I was a kid, my dad was there for about a year. We wandered the country a lot. It really is a poor country, but in the touristy areas the prices make you wonder why.

The place on the coast is a decent plan. [I'll expect a discount of course.]
