Some new extensions are good if they don't exagerate releasing too many, i think domainers hate new extensions or any other extensions except .com .net because those who want a keyword domain can buy it under any ccTLD without purchasing from them. IMO
The number of websites on the internet will increase very much in the next 10 - 25 years, obviously we need new extensions, .com, .net, org, will not be able to cover the market. Without releasing new extensions after few years the shortest .com available will be a 5-10 chars, useless for any brandable business.
I bought the domain to make a website, i'm not interested to sell it.

Every extension has potential, .me , .info , .pro
, .whatever since icann will be releasing a new batch of extensions soon and ultimately allow everyone (with a decent amount of cash) to create their own extension.
The problem here is how you will be using that domain, developing is always the best alternative, but yet again I'm sure you'll be able to find .com , .net and .org alternatives (of course not top level dictionary names but yet good alternatives) that are much better in terms of SE rankings.
