Thread: Examples of good Press Releases

    Examples of good Press Releases

I'm currently going around and subscribing to various PR sites, the main issue I have is actually writing the release, I've no idea where to start.

I don't want to pay somebody to do this, not yet anyway. I want to get to grips with writing them myself so I have a solid knowledge foundation to go over any press releases I may have produced for me in the future.

  2. Promotional writing like press releases are the hardest type of writing for me.

Randall Hansen maintains a good Guide to Writing Successful Media Releases that links to most of the best resources on the web for this topic.

One of the few resources Randall doesn't link to is Press Release Writing, which has a good collection of free tips, along with a (printed) book on the topic.

I would like to add tips on press releases

    1. Make sure the information is newsworthy.
    2. Tell the audience that the information is intended for them and why they should continue to read it.
    3. Start with a brief description of the news, then distinguish who announced it, and not the other way around.
    4. Ask yourself, "How are people going to relate to this and will they be able to connect?"
    5. Make sure the first 10 words of your release are effective, as they are the most important.
    6. Avoid excessive use of adjectives and fancy language.
    7. Deal with the facts.
    8. Provide as much Contact information as possible: Individual to Contact, address, phone, fax, email, Web site address.
    9. Make sure you wait until you have something with enough substance to issue a release.
    10. Make it as easy as possible for media representatives to do their jobs

I would have to say rewrite that completely. It doesn't flow from title to bottom at all. It tells me you are new at blogging, want to blog, wanting to teach how to blog and you want to make money blogging. Why would I have a brand new blogger teach me how to blog?

I hope you take that as constructive criticism as it is intended.

It's like reality TV -- this is reality Internet.

People love watching their peers do stuff, because they can emotionally connect with them.

arggh!!! just lost my post again!

I understand what you are saying Will, it should be taken as the question he would want to answer with his press release.

    (hope this saves...)

Oh for sure, The whole idea of that release was to inform that blogstew is based on one man's attempt at making money online. Its not so much about blogging technique but about how to create some type of an income from blogging.

But don't worry, that's not been used for anything, it was just my first attempt

I decided to copy that image into this thread as a reference. I understand the thread title is misleading, but at the time I was asking for specific examples, then later on I decided to share my attempt. So please do not take that example as being 'good' because that is something it is far from.

    Still,

    Thanks for the comment.
