thanks for the list, i think its better to have a list where it mentiones if we can put anchor text in the press release as many free PR sites don't allow this. Anyone having such a list???

For real press releases, try www.dbusinessnews.com great for local press releases

Indeed, PrWeb is the most prominent press release submission website. But if it's out of your budget then go ahead with other free PR Submission websites.
At the same time, submission in PrWeb adds value to your website. Regular Investment from your monthly earnings is equally important for your growth.

I never did a Press release. Does anyone have any experience with it. What did it do to your rankings? (from 25 to 16 for example)

MervikHaums above have a report that tells what press release get syndicated the most and gives you most backlink. It's a good idea to find 20% of sites which gives you 80% of results as usually free press release site doesn't really gives much weight in backlinks.
