    Are anchor texts natural?

There is so much talk about anchor texts. But are anchor texts all that natural. Don't most non-webmaster guys naturally link to the url without anchor text ?
Don't you think anchor texts are unnatural considering many people(non seo guys) dont even know how to make anchor texts.

There are very good guidelines from Google to learn many SEO techniques including anchor texts page 45 at: www.google.com/webmasters/docs/google-seo-report-card.pdf

I think anchor texts are natural to help visitors and search engines.

I am going to take a look at it. Thanks.

My point is, dont you think the usual guys, those who hunt for information(non seo guys) and those who post links sometimes to cite references and to help, do they all use anchor texts. I would think not. So how can anchor texts be natural?

Usual guys don't hunt for information until they find out that their site have low traffic, too few orders or are disapointed by "professional SEO work".

When they educate themselves through webmaster forums, they start digging on internet the information they need or they are following tips from senior forum members.

You didnt get me. I am not talking of self promotion. I am talking of laymen(audience) who link naturally. They dont use anchor texts that much surely.

For ex, if my site were to receive natural links(without my link spamming) then it must receive links from other people.
Like if I had an auto site and a mechanic was to link to it somewhere else, he might not use anchor texts. So isn't natural linking "anchor text free" for the most part.

I hope you got what I am saying.

Well, people link to the domain name in general using my company name, but if they are bloggers or writers they use anchor link texts.

I guess that answers your question

Very good question, I agree with you, as user, between: freegames.com, freegames.tk, freegames.in I prefer the url to make clear the address of the site, that is why I avoid to use generic terms like "Free Games", in general.

The anchor text is natural and existed before google. The hyperlink (or link) is a reference that can be followed automatically and usually contains descriptive anchor text. What google did was to devise an algorithm to rank sites based on the hyperlinks that already existed pre-Google.

If I was google and I see a site with 100% anchor texted links(even if they have different anchors) I wouldn't be too happy about it. It may be a good idea to throw around naked links too.

Nothing on the web is 100% natural. If Google gave more value to "naked links", it would be detected. It would be long before people were selling "naked link" e-books etc
