Banner Exchange site a good idea?

Do you think that making a Banner Exchange site ( for any category site other than adult and illegal) would be a good idea? Of course it would be a 1:1 exchange ratio and completely free.

Would you use it?

Well, this is not a very original idea but I have seen sites like these which are pathetic and yet doing well.

So if you invest a little on design and promotion, this may do well.

You have to also have good back end stuff.

I am not too sure if I would use this. There may be others who will.

Well, I have 4 years experience with PHP so I could do it, just the issue of graphics as I am not very good with graphics. I know it isn't original but thought I would at least ask.

I would not recommend this if your goal is to get many visitors. Banners are a rather outdated method of web publicity and most of all, theyh are really 'intrusive'. (Disturbing your users is never a good idea...)

On the other hand, 125x125 ads would probably do fine. They're cleaner and look professionnal.

Keep in mind that ads with bigger dimensions are likely to cause annoyance to your users.

Is there a newer method? Or do you mean just word of ear or forum advertising?

banner exchange, hmm...
i think it's good but not more good than other promotion technique
i never click banner in a site

nic SEO, i'm agree with you, nowadays 125x125 ads is become a trend to ads and it's more efective

Both are great options, but you could also consider writing content on other site (for free) and get yourself appreciated and known. The modish thing at the moment is doing guest posts but since you have knowledge of php, why not writing about it in 'big places'?

Back to banner exchange topic, you can find many banner exchange offer in a many forum. Anyway, is there any people here wanna do banner exchange with me? My blog topic is contest information :P (rare topic, right)

Em.. I thinks, banner exchange will be an effective ways to gain more hits to your site if you do exchanging banner with site that has a lot of unique visitors daily. More better if your site have same topic with them.

Btw, what about entrecard way to get more visitor to our site?
