    Black Hat SEO

Have you ever done some Blackhating before?

Blackhat SEO, on the contrary of Whitehating (I'll make another thread on this) tends to give quick results and enormous ammounts of traffic.
Also, viral traffic schemes are often referred as being blackhat optimizing methods.

    The cons are that:
    1) the results usually don't last,
    2) it often drives bulk traffic, therefore visitors not easyly converted into buyers and

    The pros:
    1) fast,
    2) lot of traffic,
    2) easier than Whitehat.
I would not be ready to say that Blackhating is 'unethical', but I have to admit that it is not very user-friendly.

Here are some useful links about Blackhat SEO:

SEO Black Hat is a blog decicated to the topic (techniques and news).
    Here's the wiki (titled 'Spamdexing')
    About.com article.

    So, do you Blackhat?

PS: I just read that 'both BMW Germany and Ricoh Germany [were remove from Google's index temporary] for use of deceptive practices'... they then apologised and were forgiven.

I have read and done a lot of SEO work in the past, so I have never needed to blackhat. And I have achieved pretty good results, maybe not immidiate but they were long lasting.

The Dollar Diary, which is a month old, gets a decent 10% of search engine traffic.

I think I've tried it before... by accident. :s8:

One day, my father received an SMS about a 6-year-old boy kidnapped somewhere in Malaysia (The kidnapper quickly drove the father's car away when the boy was sleeping inside).

All of the details are there - the place, the car color, who to call. Since most of Gloson Blog visitors were from Malaysia, that time, I decided to post the SMS there.

After doing so, I searched for it using google, and came across a forum thread on it. A guy said the boy was found, two hours ago. I then deleted the posts.

I then discovered that some of Gloson Blog's traffic was coming from google searches on the SMS! Boy! Google indexed my post 20 minutes after I posted it (and it's the second result)!

Of course, they landed on a 404 page for I deleted that post. I then used a plugin called redirection to redirect the 404 page-visitors to the main page.

Sure enough, next day, the story came out in the press.

It drove about 50 visitors to my site in one day. Not bad, but am still feeling guilty :s

Thanks, Nic. I thought it was Black Hatting because I searched Wikipedia on Black Hat SEO and it redirected to a page entitled 'Spamdexing'.

    The article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_h..._of_spamdexing

    From the page:

    "URL redirection

Taking the user to another page without his or her intervention, e.g. using META refresh tags, Flash, JavaScript, Java or Server side redirects"

Again, no problem here since the article used to be on your site.

Would you call every person who uses the 404 redirect script a BlackHater? ;p

Actually, it should be 'BlackHatter' with two t's, otherwise it would mean a person who hates the color black. ;p

Yeah, because they are spamming the search index.
