Is it a blog and how does that effect promotion?

Not sure if this is the best forum for this but I guess it will be moved if it isn't.

I have domain that I've added some news-type posts to just to get content on. I plan on continuing the news posts, which are pretty matter of fact type posts and then writing articles (top 10 ways and 100 ways type stuff) and resources to put on the site as well.
So it's really not a blog but the problem is that blog is in the domain. <industry-niche>blog.com for example.

This doesn't really matter to me but I wonder if it will have an effect in terms of promotion? For example are there places that won't want to list the site because they think it's a blog? Will it matter at all? If so I'll just get another domain and redirect it since its new.

  2. Personally, I would not invest heavily in a llllllblog.com domain. It's too limiting regarding future growth opportunities.

You could build a new site on a new domain and have it crosslink with the blog. That could be a good way to get multiple SERP listings from Google for the top keywords in your niche.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I just wanted to hear it from someone else.

Crosslinking -- linking between the two sites.

So it's like I make a link in the blog say in the blogroll to the new website and from the new website also make a link back to the blog?

define:crosslinking - Google Search - more simply, any form of link exchange (recommendably in-content).
