    Education and Government Sites
.edu and .gov websites are recommended backlinks, as linking from these types of websites give you more clout with search engines. Becoming a valued member of their forums could get your foot in the door, as it is quite difficult to get these links.
i still don't see the difference in weighing backlinks from sites with extension .com, .edu or .gov.. well, they could be a source of traffic as .edu and .gov sites rank nicely, but for backlinks? still don't see no difference from a pr1 .com site to a pr1.gov/.edu

I don't really think extensions matter either. But what I do think is that .gov/.edu websites are usually content-rich and regarded as quality websites as google. Similar to .info, just because 99% of them are spam and not highly regarded by google we can't say they are ALL bad for backlinks- but if you were randomly going to choose a .info out of a list of 100, it will probably be a crap backlink.

I believe you are correct. Matt Cutts also agrees with you, in this video.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
