Thread: Is Caffeine Completely Live? Or Is it in progress?

I cannot say it is platitude. Of course there are other factors, but I have seen too many sites ranking high for the terms I was looking for and queries returned junk results.

From the begining spam and link manipulation seems not to be a primary issue for search engines.

Caffeine is a subject on every webmaster forums or blogs with big noise and big expectations which are not really when I see how sites rank.

A good question to webmasters should ask: Do you like Google Caffeine? I bet most of them will say something different.

I doubt that caffeine has been completely rolled-out. Google has been silent on the subject. As of late Feb 2010, Caffeine was still live at one data center. Caffeine would need to be deployed one data center at a time and we would have seen much more of a "Google Dance"

I think that it's more likely that we are seeing "caffeine style" tweeks within the framework of the current algorithm. So that when caffeine does become fully deployed, the changes won't be as noticable and there will be less disruption to the SERPS.

One of the major components of Caffeine is a rewrite of the Google File System (GFS). The new GFS2 will give Google the ability to index more pages and speed the time that the pages are searched.

Why the need for more power and speed? Phrasification and phrase based indexing.

Google has just been awarded a patent for phrasification which "compares the phrase's score to a second threshold, which is used to further identify strong phrases. The algorithm is constantly changing and those that adapt survive. But there is also another factor in that you chase the algo and when it changes you can't turn on a dime.

Webmasters need to consider whether they are going to be in business five years down the road. So there should be a consideration on whether your work still have value in a couple of years.

But how do you adopt when you don't know how something works ?
As far as I know,nobody knows how Google works,so how can we adopt to it ?

One of the things that you can do is to make sure your site has a balanced link profile. So that a change in the algorithm doesn't have so much an effect. Also watch the more stable sites so that you can identify what you aren't doing and the competition is.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket and get different kinds of links. In other words have balance. Both low and high PR links. Links from blogs, directories, contextual links, forum signatures (relevant), articles, Web 2.0 and whatever else you can think of.

The reciprocal links were slammed hard by the Jagger 1-2-3 and Big Daddy updates back in 2005 and early 2006.

Directories got slammed in later 2007.

The Florida update in 2003 smacked a lot of sites hard.

Some sites recover and some don't. Some sites drop in ranking and some don't. So the question is always why?

The better way to define it is balance: stability produced by even distribution of weight on each side of the vertical axis

Diversity in of itself doesn't necessarily give you balance.
