Content or Backlinks? What is more important?

Thank you... thank you, finally i said something intelligent.

I did't said the army is enough to win a battle, you need both but as in real life a king or any leader, can do nothing without the people to support him.

In our case the army supporting the king in this "war" are the backlinks, the links from authority sites are well trained soldiers while the rest are some peasants enrolled in our army.

What are the paid links then ? just mercenary soldiers.

If you are getting free links, you are lucky

. Often you need to buy links on good PR sites to improve your site's page ranking so Paid links have their own value and the site where your link is, bound to keep the link for certain period. Free links can be removed anytime without any warning/notice/intimation

Yes, but Google doesn't like paid links, if found a website buying or selling links i think is penalized.

Now, this is the issue. I used to use Paid Links on my blog and Google penalized me. I removed the links and filed a reconsideration request and the next day (they told me to wait for weeks

), my PR was upgraded to 2.

Well there's nothing much to say left, I believe contents it the reason why people visit your site, if you have good contents then people will come and revisit, the question is, how can people know that you have good contents? this is where backlinks come into play.

I would say the content. If you have good content, your visitors will most likely post about it on other sites. That way you also receive links as well as more traffic.
