    agreed to the fullest.

once you have content then you should definetely look for optimization.

but now a days people create content which could be SEO based.

which i think is the wrong approach.

In the coming years the situation would be more worst as far as this PR game is concerned. Even today people play different tricks and tactics to get more links; however, when it comes to overstuffing keywords that is slowly but gradually becoming a thing of past. I strongly believe in this statement: "If you want your site to be optimized, don't optimize!" ...bravo guys (whomsoever wrote it

I would say, I totally agree with you! However, there will always be people who will be taking the shortcut to the finish line.

SEO is important and will be important for as long as there are search engines. At the very least you should at least do keyword research and find out what people are actually searching for rather then just writing about whatever you want.

I mean if internet marketing is a business shouldn't you treat it like a business.

    Market research + promotion =

Instead of treating it like a gold rush.

create a product you like with no consideration for your potential customers + wishful thinking =

Some sites naturally rank well without SEO however others need quite a bit of work. I personally do some SEO work but nothing major if the site is quality it should get natural backlinks.

Also in SEO it's very important to make it look natural so I guess I do SEO naturally?

    SEO == Happiness.

Google is telling everyone that SEO is dead, but they have reasons to do so that are for their own benefit -- not ours.
Yes you are right man. Good SEO means good traffic and good traffic means good money

I think there is a distinction between market research, marketing in general and SEO. I totally agree you can't just go do whatever you want without even knowing your target audience or if it even exists and then expect success. And I also agree that you should get the word out about your site.

The "unnatural SEO" I'm talking about has more to do with strategies which actually don't improve your user experience and the quality of your service, which aren't the things you would do when you typically think about "how do I serve my customers better", but are merely designed to appeal to bots and the algorithms current whims. And what is especially bad is using such techniques as spamming other people's sites just so you can get more inbound links, instead of attracting links by the sheer usefulness or quality of your content/service.

I don't think you can go wrong by focusing on the quality of your service or content, on the best possible user experience, and on knowing your market.

I think SEO is secondary to these objectives, and should be done only when it enhances any of the above. Otherwise it's kind of like cheating, trying to get higher than the quality of your content/service and the user experience you provide deserves. Of course, cheating can work for a time, but sooner or later users catch on and the game gets harder to play. :P

I agree with you. But I think that the average person is more on the SEO side of the line than marketing.

SEO is important to target the right keywords and optimize the pages properly.

However, I think marketing research is less important than advertising, consumer behavoir, sales, vertical marketing and service or product marketing. The SEO may style himself as a marketer but the "real marketing professionals" are now targeting the internet. You can see for example by taking a look at Advertising Age or other main stream marketing industry publications. So, the "internet guy" will need to take it up a notch to stay successful.

Also, marketing reserach can get quite expensive and therefore may not be as useful for the small business. I suggest doing "marketing campaign tests" to find the most successful marketing strategy a.k.a "A/B split marketing tests".

Yeah, The "monkey tricks" are short term when you take into account the time "gaming" links is greater than the time spent focusing on customers.

Doing SEO for your site means you have to do it regularly. Once you stop, your site will be down. But don't try to do SEO for your site quickly with black hat technique because it can harm your site. SEO can also help you increase traffic for your site.

    Hi,
What you have told is you have to do seo regularly. But some time its true some time its wrong. When you are working with a tough key word then it should be done regularly. But if you are doing it with a less competitive key word then it is seen that the result may be stable for some time. If you do seo that time regularly it has a chance to get spammed.
