Does having the date effect SEO?

By having the date on every article you publish on your website have any negative effects regarding SEO?

For example, could google start treating it like a blog?

The reason I ask this is because I was reading an article on how to use wordpress for static websites. One of the steps was to remove the test saying who posted the blog post and when it was posted.

    Thanks.

It does not have effect. But if your date and author stuff are above the content then it can have impact but not significant. Since by the seo rules, content must be closest to the the <body> tag as posible. Still there is plenty of the other parameters that are more important.

Why would you not want Google to treat your site like a blog? Google loves blogs, as long as you keep adding content. The linking structure in blogs is ideal for spiders.

My main business is SEO. My highest traffic sites are blogs that I have never spent any time promoting. The idea is to focus on good topics and content.

I'm in the process of converting the last of my static sites to WordPress blogs.

I normally do remove the posting dates and author from my article blog themes, but that is not really for SEO purposes. .
