For again, without even knowing the blog, you are making a negative assumption to protect yourself and your clients.
Not true, dawg. I do know the blog, although only briefly. When I saw your offer, I visited, because I thought I might be interested in taking you up on it. I just am leery right now of doing anything that even might be flirting with Google, and since I've avoided problems so far, by only having links from relevant sites, I'm playing it safe until we all have a better idea of what's going on with the recent updates.

BTW, I thought it was a very generous offer.

In the case of dawg's offer, I don't think that one link isn't going to matter to much.

But this is the garbage that Google is doing that you need to worry about who links to you. What ever happened to quality of content and do what will benefit your readers.

So, the end result is that you could have the best content in the world and a lousy link profile. You aren't going to rank for scheiße (pardon my french)

And it's going to get worse, bogart. I heard today from a very reliable source, that they are already manually reviewing sites singled out by a new algo, which is targeting things like testimonials and client lists that have links. I can't imagine what benefit they might think that offers to the users. And the only possible benefit I can see it bringing to the SE is if they really thought they could make people eliminate ALL inbound links, so that the only way to be found is via their search and paid ads. That seems pretty unlikely to me, but nothing else makes sense.

The day will come, when google algos itself out of business.
Any webmaster who relies on google for traffic is an idiot.
But then I have said that for years.

Darn good job of copy and pasting!
Same exact reply used by so many in so many forums.
Must be a school some where that teaches people who know little to no english how to copy and paste that same things over and over.
And to then spam out in your post by dropping live links to your crap sites.

Again, you took the indian/pakistani internet rulebook.

Same here! One of my blogs that has been around for a few years just had the homepage drop out of Google SERP existence after years of being in the top 5 for its main keyphrase. The content pages still rank incredibly well and draw traffic.

Perhaps I have been naive to think Google would prevent this by simply not allowing any inbound links to ever be harmful. In other words, a terrible link would just have zero impact instead of negative impact. Am I ridiculous to think it should be that simple?

I have come to believe link building hurts. The more unique the content, the better. And keywords in the domains still work.

I keep getting unexpected traffic IBLs and from there my Google traffic goes up.

But where to get real traffic is the question when things are so condensed.

I would say that that is the key now.

The rest is just confusion intended to be just that by the Google spam team.
