Thread: Few tips and tricks I use daily ;)

This is probably my first constructive and hopefully useful post, but I'm reading this forum from the beginnings, so hello everyone .

Anyway, first tip is for webmasters that don't live in US. I'm from Europe, Balkans, and when I go to google.com, I'm redirected to google in my language in my case thats .si, google.si. So why is that bad? Well, when you do searches in .si google, you don't get same SERPs displayed like some surfer in US would see. So that can be a problem if you want to rank good for some keyword and you don't really know if you see right SERPs.

What I usually do is I visit google .co.uk version, thats UK version of google site and it has similar SERPs as US visitors would see. So if you are not from US or UK try google.co.uk for more accurate SERPS.

Second tip is about backlinks, I'm really obsessed with backlinkwatch site and I spend quite a lot of time on that site exploring or should I say investigating my competitors backlinks. If you use backlinkwatch, pay attention to this kind of links ( http:// www . bla bla.com/2006/11/28/some-post-title/) that are blog links and probably comment links so if you see this kind of links when you investigate your competitor, that probably means he found a blog to post his link in comments, whats also important is /2006/11/28 you see the year .. 2006 that means that post is 3 years old, so it probably has some PR and thats always helpful.

a while back there's a website that allow us to see adwords on different google geoIP, I mean we can check what adwords showed on google.com or google.co.id and so on. However someone reported this website as a phishing site, too bad.

I used to use it to check the adwords competition in specific countries.

Sometimes I can access google.com without any redirects to google.fi (Finland). But if I can't, I click the "google.com in english" link on the google.fi page.

That's what I was going too say too, it's possible by doing that (right in the bottom, the last 'sentence'.

Are you logged in with your google accoun? If you are: log out and try again. If it doesn't work, then (Well I don't know what then...)

I've seen more accurate results in google.com and disabling ad preferences by checking google.com at different geo locations.

Here is better thing my balkan friend

When you are redirected to local version of Google
just click in right corner bellow where is written "Google.com in English"

click it and you will have SERP results as the most of the world.

I had never heard of backlinkwatch before this post.
So, Dusan, you definately deserve a written Thanks. Pressing the "thanks" button is not enough.

I checked backlinkwatch today, and I like it. Very usefull website. I don't know why I hadn't heard of it before.
Now it is bookmarked.

Great advice Dusan, I'm in Spain so I get the same problem, I always get google.es, except I have one more problem. When I use google.com I still get Spanish results first, for example I get the Spanish version of wikipedia in my search results instead of the English version so logging out and going to google.com isn't always going to work for everyone.

Another problem is that if I specifically want Mexican or Argentinian results, one of my sites gets a lot of traffic from those countries, then I find that I always get redirected to google.es, but what I really want is the results from google.com.mx or google.com.ar - it is very frustrating and I can't even use a proxy because most of them are in the US
