Thread: First step as an Internet Marketer

Hybrid View

  1. First step as an Internet Marketer

    When you start off a website, what are the first few steps you take to market it and gain the initial exposure?

    (Long-term strategies are different)

    As for me it is:

    * Social bookmarking
    * Forum posting
    * Blog Commenting

    Those are the basic steps that go on for the first few days, especially for websites that I am planning to flip.

    What about you?

    Are you on Twitter? Let's become friends!

    Well mostly the marketing for a new website happens before I buy the domain, scripts etc.

    The marketing plan contains forums about the niche, so a few days before the site opens I start posting the forums. When the site is launched, I mostly have 50-100 or more posts, so I add the new website to my signature, mostly I built some rep by than which gives me more traffic

    I'm not into social bookmarking, but I should check it out too I guess! I hate blog posting, just to get traffic to my own site. So what I mostly do is search for blogs in the same niche, find questions of other people in the comments or in the post, and than create a page with the answer from my site -- Than I'll post a link from the comment section to my website, that sort posting is better than just a link under my username or a post with 'Go to www.xxx.com for more' etc

    Just my thing

    First step as an IMer would be to mail my mailing list or just tell me friends about it and get them to tweet etc.

    The first step would be to make sure your project has an income stream that is enough to pay for the domain + hosting yearly. Isn't much, can be less than $20/year for both... but you have to make sure it exists.

    The only ones making money are by selling impossible marketing schemes to dummies. Why would any guru who can make money of the Internet sell that secret. It's impossibly dumb.

    Eventually you get bored building site after site and page after page.

    At some point, you want to build people.

    I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

    To make more money?

    I always plan my websites as well as I can. Then I create the content (what ever it is), then I buy the domain, and put up the website. Then I promote it with jv partners, search engines, forums, social media, and some other places. I always try to build an opt-in list from every website I build.

    I guess it depends a bit on the type of site being built. For example, I'm building some sites that have a strong link with the offline world. To get exposure I'm trying to get a link from related business directories, trade platforms and local marketplace like sites. In addition, I will do some offline advertising when the budget allows it.

    The first step for me would be build relationship with other people, for example on NB and Twitter, after that I will promote my products to them.

    What about the old chestnut - Great, high quality unique content?

    Really high quality informative stuff brings people back.

    That's the stuff I bookmark
