    Flooding Google Trends

Reading Google Trends Pranks Rule The Week; Justin Bieber, Megan Fox, Oprah Winfrey Targetted got me thinking about flooding Google Trends as part of a SEO campaign.

A lot of people monitor Google Trends and then blog about whatever the hot trends are. There may be some value in creating fake hot trends in an effort to generate inbound links.

Hmm, interesting idea. But how to implement it?

One idea may be to start with a unique keyword and the domain name to go with it. Then post a story to social media sites about how your keyword did something to create an incredible happening in the world such as starting the timer of a nuclear weapon?

I agree, it's an interesting concept...but wouldn't people actually "catch on" pretty quickly? I mean, I've seen it been done before, especially through proxies and bots, but to get "the real links" it would be better to create a viral campaign that actually went viral.

    Something like this:

Link bait is awesome, but... unpredictable.

I totally agree, you can create 1000 different link bait type of promotions or blog posts and only 1 will go viral. Then there's some people who don't have any luck, they create 10,000 posts and none go viral.

Nowadays you pretty much have to turn into a journalist and "uncover something" in order to really get the links.

Do you think making Google Trends could be as easy as using proxies to hit Google with a bunch of queries for the same (and related) keywords?

That sounds like a heck of a lot of work.

I would think that you would need to incorporate not only software, but celebrity gossip, press releases and other public relations tactics to manipulate Google Trends that way.

Apart from proxies and bots or going viral, i way is to have a big community that would help you do it.
I remember a couple of years back when 4chan had helped the 'swastika symbol' hit the top of google trends.
    Here's a source to my claim :
