Nice and thanks for the link Will. But if we talk about link building then it is a part of optimization. But when we talk about paid links then its a part of "Illegal activities of promotion". Am i correct?
Buying links isn't "illegal", it's just against Google's guidelines.
Google is a corporation, it has no power to make laws.

What if you don't mind being called a spammer?
What I do basically is only buy in content links, or links on donation pages. I wouldn't buy links in the footer, or sidebar.
