    How do Squidoo lenses Work?

I've joined Squidoo and played around with it for a bit, but I really don't see the benefit of posting tons of lenses with partial articles and backlinks to my sites. I suppose I could be missing out on something, but I am wondering what the main point of even building a Squidoo page would be

Squidoo has a vast arrange of SEO benefits, which I just so happened to have outlined here:
The SEO Value of Squidoo | Running Online Business

Basically, you build a Squidoo Lens and get multiple backlinks from an authority website. Depending on what you do with it, you could even earn revenue from the page itself using their built in ad-revenue sharing network or by selling affiliate products on the Lens.

Squidoo is not what it used to be. With that said, it still has some seo value as Kovich has outlined.

I would figure that the only SEO benefit comes from squidoo.com itself, which after a while must only be able to give so much PR juice and backlinking power. However I may try it for my new blog Inside the Webb, as I have some past articles I'd like to spin and market with some fresh content on Squidoo if it really can be that powerful.

Kind of. But if you treat your Squidoo page like a micro-site, rather than simply a backlink, then you will see alot more benefit.

Building links to your Squidoo page to improve its profile/traffic, for example, will increase PR juice and benefit to your main site AND give you the opportunity to sell your product as well.

But, would the time be better spent working on the main site or on a Squidoo profile that you do not actually own?

I guess I can see your point Commandtree, I don't think I would want to spend all this time on a Squidoo lens. I don't have any products I'm trying to sell or promote, and overall I think I would rather try to be drawing traffic to my blog and not Squdoo.

I am in the same position at the moment but I will be selling a product through it evantually so I am putting a little bit of effort into building it up.

Still, I don't like the idea of someone else owning the page and being able to pull it down whenever they wanted.

Yeah, I have a similar way of looking at it.

I have no problem doing some minimal link building and exposure techniques, but as for any sort of long-term investment into a squidoo lens or something, it just makes me uncomfortable and I feel like my efforts are better spent on my actual site.

I think realistically that's all I'm looking for in Squidoo. I don't expect to create my blog and referrals straight out of my lens, but rather I'd like traffic caught into my Squidoo Lens to be brought ultimately to either my blog home page or my blog post which I'm advertising.
