Yes i am agree with this poster.. This is a great way to have a backlinks. But avoid spamming.

work with directory submission, blog reviews, bookmarkings and netwoking

If you have some design skills, create some templates either web, blogger or wordpress and give them away for free. Put backlinks in the footer and state in the terms that you must maintain these links to use the template.

You can get some excellent links which develop over time.

And I think link exchanges are great if the opportunity arises. An exchange is better than nothing at all.

you can even do link baiting...

1.) Forum Signatures.
2.) Link Exchanges
3.) Directory Submission, Article Submission, Social Bookmarking Submissions and RSS Submission.
4.) Blog Commenting.

These all are free..

Based on my experience, it really depends on your niche, some will work well with certain method.

One of my website get most of its traffic from forum signatures and posts while others get nothing , some get significant traffic from article marketings, some from social bookmarking... So yes... the method listed below are worth to try...
