How Insulting Can We Be When Promoting A Product?

I have an idea for an educational product and was wondering how far it is wise to push the envelope in terms of the "idiots guide" way?

Replace ??? with any given phrase/noun:

??? guide to doing this thing easily and effectively.

I would provide examples but they may trigger the moderation filters

XXX for Dummies has been VERY successful. As long as it does not appear that you actually think they are idiots... as long it is mean to be humorous and not degrading... it can be a good tactic.

Hell, I'm amazed people go to Dick's Last Resort bar/restaurant to be treated like crap by the servers.

Provocation in a classy way that makes the reader think was always very successful.
I live in a country where Communism was very strong so that figure of speech was very popular.

My product was for the dating niche so I was thinking to say something along the lines of:

Even a zit infested nerd like you that got tired of watching fit babes being escorted to the prom via binoculars can't fail with this method of getting laid, or your money back.

Or probably a well toned down version of this for the masses.

In a piece of sales text, if you want your reader to become a customer, you need to think about how your reader is feeling. If your reader is feeling desperate, you are likely to sell your product.

You need to make legitimate connections with your readers, by providing realistic situations, which target their emotions.

If a zit infested nerd reads your sales text and thinks "hell, this is true - I was standing behind the tree outside the prom, holding a pair of binoculars, just the other day," then your copy has been successful. You will have made a connection strong enough to result in a sale.

Think about how realistic this situation is. Is your reader likely to be a zit infested nerd? Is your reader likely to spy on "fit babes"? Is your reader likely not to go to the prom? If you answered "no" to any of these questions, it probably is not worth insulting your reader.

  7. I always try to give best information about my product when i promote my product. This is the best idea to increase sales.
