Default How many sites can a webmaster promote?

I'm wondering how many websites a webmaster can adequately promote. Sure, it's possible to outsource or to use exact match domains to lessen the work. But without major outsourcing, I think that more than 3 to 5 sites is spreading yourself too thin.

Major or minor, a webmaster will HAVE TO outsource if not having an inhouse team. Now, if outsourcing comes in, one can promote as many sites as he wants provided the team is reliable and he is capable of tracking and managing his campaigns efficiently. All he needs to use his mind and 4-5 hours everyday.

I agree if you are operating as a 'one man band' then 3 to 5 will keep you more than busy

Of course outsourcing and strategic alliances etc can increase your portfolio effectively, but managing each site effectively, regardless of quantity is essential

Automated link building seriously helps. WordPress automatically pings new pages - that's a start, to get you noticed, and help you identify approximately how much more link building is required. You can furthermore use automated software, such as SENuke, Social Submitter, or Market Samurai to give you a helping hand. Justification of the price tags is dependant on the frequency of your use of the offered marketing techniques by these products, on a manual basis.

Personally, I just bought Social Submitter yesterday. I've been on an account creating frenzy - and I've had the help of someone else inhouse, from the Philippines. I will be offering social bookmarking as a service in the Marketplace, when we have finished making the accounts. This is simply to help me justify the price tag - whilst I will be using the software package to promote my own websites. From what I've heard, it's very effective.

It is definitely not easy to promote more than five sites all at once. Heck! I have trouble doing it for only three sites. I do all the link building/content creation on my own. Rarely I outsource the work. However, recently I have noticed that I NEED to outsource the work in order to get everything done. If I do not outsource the work, I would be sitting at the computer for hours day in and day out.

Personally, I can handle two or three sites on my own, but as webmasters we tend to handle several, if not hundreds of sites. We really do need to outsource some of the work!

My affiliate marketing site count is approaching 40 and will be at least 50 by the end of the year. Each one adds to the till each month, but some do tend to stagnate from neglect.

I agree that someone can probably only manage 4 or 5 and do it well, but quite frankly, I do not know which sites I would dump if I had to drop back to that level.

At this point, I just try to rotate through the sites and give each one at least some attention each month.

It takes money to make money. So far we have a few ways that will help the webmaster manage a larger portfolio of websites.
1) Automated link building
2) Outsourcing and strategic alliances etc can increase your portfolio effectively, but managing each site effectively, regardless of quantity is essential
3) Purchase exact match domains to rank on keywords
4) Purchase established sites with passive income
I guess the optimal solution is to automate and outsource as much as possible with an eye for generating as much passive revenue as possible.

What you are doing is the best way. There is an old saying that "two halves don't make a whole."

I'm more concerned about the saying about placing too many eggs in not enough baskets.

I like diversification. It is what kept my business going for the past 6 years.

Another consideration is the business that you are doing. What I mean to say is that some one doing the online business can work on their own sites in the downtime. Where the people that have day jobs, go to school or run a business have many more limitations on may many websites they are able to promote. For example, a real estate agent running a network of real estate websites may be away from the web days or even weeks at a time due to the needs to follow-up leads and show clients homes for sale.

I'm having one at the moment and in the process of starting another brand new one and I feel that it's already taking up most of my free times. Maybe seasoned web builders will be able to handle more sites at once but myself being a newbie is rather slow at things.
