Thread: Keyword Seperator For Subdomains?

This thought never crossed my mind till today, so here goes.

Consider i want to optimize for the keyword 'webmaster forum'(assumption).

For a domain, to reap the EMD benefit it would be ideal to have something like

Code:

http://WebmasterForum.tld

.

For a folder or file, the ideal way to get the onpage benefit of 'keyword in URL', i'll have to have the URL as

Code:

http://www.domain.tld/Webmaster-Forum

However for Subdomains, which is the best way to have the keyword in it??
1) Seperated by a hyphen as in :

Code:

http://Webmaster-Forum.domain.tld

Or

2) No keyword seperation as in :

Code:

http://WebmasterForum.domain.tld

I guess it'll be the same like with the folders, so a hyphen might help. But, it's still a big difference whether you build links a lot or not. I mean, if you build 1000 links to webmaster forum to the non-hyphen version, Google will know what it is too

I understand what you are saying but there has to be a valid 'more preferred' space seperator, like in the same way how the 'hyphen' is more preferred as compared to the 'underscore' for folders & files.

I believe that in the case of a sub-domain, 'no space' as how it is used for the EMD benefit for normal domains is more preferred than the 'hyphen' mainly because many Web 2.0 properties where we can create a free blog as a subdomain just have characters and numbers allowed while special characters like the 'hyphen' is disallowed. Just my $0.02.

Any other opinions, guys?
