Let's say your advertising budget is 400 USD a month ...

and you have 4 months to get your website as much exposure as you possibly can.
In addition you have 20 hours a week available to work on that site.

What will be your strategy and how will you spend the money?

This is a really tough question and there are so many ways to tackle this problem. I would think one of the wisest first moves anyone could make is to start with Google Adwords and keyword research. Maybe dedicate the first $400 and month just learning and deploying a good Adwords campaign. Everything else should fill in from there and you can keep small SEO projects going on the side.

400$ is a fair bit for advertising. Some of this could be used for out sourcing some of the work, like the ideas mentioned above!

About what would the site be? I'd have a total different strategy for a blog with fun movies for youngsters, than I'd have for a finance blog about saving money or talking about how bad the economy is. At first, I'd probably look to see if I can create a good campaign, but also find out when my subject will be most popular in the year. Imagine I'd have a Christmas costumes website, I would be investing in link building at save money for campaigns and website advertising 1 month from now..

It's about dating. As seen in my signature. Link building is flaky, but I do a bit myself with related websites. But not overdoing it. I am growing on Facebook and Twitter, but need the extra push. Thanks for all of your replies.
