    Nofollow is the same as a redirect. The search engines don't follow.

    I think that the reason sp*mmers are still slamming the blogs is that it's believed that nofollow blogs still flow juice. It turns out that Google had a bug and was storing the anchor text. Even though the url was getting any juice, the text in the comment was helping a site rank. Google has fixed the bug and now nofollow is nofollow.
