    The Next SEO Earthquake

Spamming on blogs too much (everyone) could make Wordpress eliminate the url form, with a negative impact for most of us.
We should think twice before recommending blog commenting, spamming to every newbie.
I know, i don't spam, you don't but others will do it and our honest work could be useless in the end.
Eliminating the url form for Wordpress could be the next SEO earthquake, for example the search engines, even the Wordpress owners could force them indirectly in order to eliminate as much as possible the spam, but they could find many reasons for doing this.

    What do you think?

  2. Ow! That would hurt! Deep impact! Devastating. I mean the backlinks that a blog comment gives is one of the most solid backlinks that can be made. I think people should try to be sensible and try to post good comments which are relative to the post and not spam

They are not solid really. First, search engine considers them of very low quality. Second, a link is considered of some value if it is indexed first of all. Making a comment on an indexed page doesn't mean, your COMMENT IS INDEXED TOO.

    Comments work okay if
they are done on reputed blogposts
comment is relevant to the post
and you're not crowded with auto-approoved spam comments.

I find blog commenting ineffective, and not worth my time. It's better invested writing new content, or promoting existing content via article marketing/social bookmarking.

Most blogs are nofollow. So there's very little SEO benefit from getting a comment backlink.

however all if this blogs is dofollow. Happy commenting!

  8. Spammers put spanners in the smooth process and this has hurt most of all the genuine guys out there.
Some people don't understand the usability of a good thing unless they have misused it.
Secondly for Wordpress doing without URL people might turn away from the particular forum meaning less visitors.
This might not have much effect on the forum but 'some' effect though in the form of some really good feebacks, comments etc.

Wordpress would never do such a thing. The most they will do is add an option if the Site-Owner wants the 'name' to be attached to the 'Website URL' or no. Anyways, wordpress is nofollow by default so due to this spam has reduced considerably.

Stripping off the URL being attached to the 'Name' would encourage some people to add the URL to the 'comment body'. This 'could' increase spam infact.
Even if this is implemented, it would feel like an attempt to close the connection between the 'blogosphere' and would not be taken down well.

So apart from making blog owners more aware and adding more spam-preventive measures i dont think there's much WP can do without disturbing its current rate of progress.

  10. I agree with the above statement, However I am hearing that Google may discount blog comments even more with caffeine.
