I have studied successful people all of my life. Most do not succeed because they follow any of the textbook theories. Those are just tools. I typically see a combination of three things with successful people.
1. A good idea or a better way of doing something.
2. Insight and knowledge. Successful people can visualize a goal and develop a path to the goal, while avoiding most of the pitfalls that cause others to fail.
3. Relentless, unyielding persistence to achieve a goal.
The third tends to be the most important factor, but the first two must exist, as well. Lots of good ideas fail because people are not dedicated enough to be persistent, and lots of brilliant people never succeed at making money.
Then again, there are some successful people that I've studied who just seem to be lucky, because they do not appear to have any particular persistence or talent. A few of these have become convicted felons. :panic:
