Thread: Number of Banners on a Blog

I am noticing that more webmasters are cleaning out their blogs of banners.
Most going to either no banners period, or keeping the number of banners down to 4-6.

And I read a lot that the big reason is to make a blog a bit more visitor friendly and not so commercial.

So, how about you and your blog?
Keep a small number of banners?
Or no banners at all?

I think one of the things that is beginning to pop up is the creation of one's own product. Bloggers like Darren Rowse argue for creating your own product to sell, so naturally, advertising money is becoming less important. But, I also do think that people are moving toward higher quality banners rather than a bunch of spammy ones. That way, the readers don't feel spammed, ya know?

Great if you can create a product that will sell day after day.
Or create new products on a given timetable.,

But yes, spammy banners are easy to spot.

Now if only big name sites and news sites, etc. would do the same.

From what I have gathered reading a lot about advertising, banners are losing their punch and text links are moving up with a better click thru rate.

Plus of course, blog posts are really getting hotter than before.

Try using something like Crazy Egg to see where in fact people are clicking on your blog (it tracks the clicks by pixels and provides a heatmap). That way you'll see exactly where you need put banners and where you need to remove them and how many you can/should have.

Exactly what I did. One of my blogs pumps 2 of my own services. The other 2 blogs are basically AdSense.

I started to experience that effect more than a year ago. Since then I only use AdSense text links on my proxy sites and blogs. I use text and banner links for pushing my own services.

keep no of banners to 3 as this will be less problematic to visitor
