    Offpage SEO Work

Nobody can deny that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plays a very important role in promoting a website nowadays. Getting real and quality visitor from search engines is better than buying ads at other websites. Doing some basic SEO work for your website is not so difficult, you just need to do onpage SEO and offpage SEO work for your website. Most of time, offpage SO work means backlinks building work. Building quality backlinks to your website helps you get a lot of visitors, and ranking high your keyword in search engines.

How to get quality backlinks to your website? Usually, there are some traditional methods. Submitting your website to directory website is useful, but you should not spam or use any software, just submit your website to top directory websites, or your will be punished by search engines. Another linkbuilding method is yahoo answers, and it is free. Answering some questions in yahoo answers help you get quality visitors and backlinks. Adding your link in forum signatures and posting in forum is a good way to get backlinks. I tried many times, i prefer html forum than other forums, from which you can easily get good and quick backlinks to your website (when you check backlinks in yahoo). Even you can write some article including your link there, then submit to article and press release website. I have heared that someone who do affiliates programs using this methods, so i think it is a good way to get backlinks. social bookmarking service can help you get many SEO friendly backlinks to your website. Even you can do it yourself for free, just create an social bookmarking website account, then submit your website details. Also, angela backlinks is a good way to get quality backlinks.

Offpage seo work of course is a long term work. If you want to keep your website ranking high in search engines, then building backlinks to your website consistently. If you do not want to do this task, then you can ask for this kind of service from some backlinks providers. In a word, offpage SEO work is important as onapge SEO work, you should not ignore it.

    offpage seo is an oxymoron

you can't optimize a page that you don't control.
    It's called marketing

I disagree. But I guess it's what you consider "off-page" SEO. While I can't do on-page SEO for a page on another site to make IT rank at Google, in many cases I can optimize MY site with how I get links from other sites.

To me on-page SEO is what I can do on PageX to make PageX rank (title, h1, h2s, content, page name etc.). It does not include what I can do on other pages of my site to help my URL rank. Nor does it include what I can do on other sites to help my URL rank.

Then rather than say everything else is off-page, I sub-divide "off-page" into "on-site" and "off-site". From this perspective, I have total control of some off-page SEO... i.e. I control all of the on-site SEO which I define as the things I do on OTHER pages on my own site to make PageX on my site rank well. For example, the overall architecture of my site, the theming within my site, the navigation, the linking structures, the link text I use on other pages of my site to link to PageX.

As far as off-site optimization goes (what I can do on other sites to help PageX on my site rank)... I still have a LOT of control with off-site SEO even though I don't own or control those pages.
    • If I am building links myself, then making sure I pick relevant sites to target for links will help optimize my PageX.
    • Using the targeted keywords for PageX on my site as the link text on other sites where I "plant" links through unnatural link building like article submission, directory submissions, forum posting, etc. (not saying they are "great" link building techniques, just that they DO effect my site's rankings and that I DO have some control over even these types of links) will help my PageX rank better.
    • Which external pages on external sites I choose to link to a particular page on my site has an affect on its rankings.
    • Even for a lot of "natural" link building (I use the term loosely for when you convince another webmaster to link to you one-way because you have great content) I can often "suggest" the link text, the URL to link too, and even which page on their site they place the link on. And many times webmasters will oblige.
So I don't agree that you have NO control or that its an oxymoron. You have less control obviously. But all of it contributes to how your URL is going to rank at Google and the other engines.

But we do agree on one things...

SEO (just like SEM/PPC, direct mail, CPM advertising, offline media like TV/Radio/Print, etc) ISMarketing.

To rank well, off page SEO is very important. For me, my time is devoted 10% on-page and the rest is off-page by creating links

I would only call it marketing when the purpose is to sell a product to a consumer as opposed to ranking keywords in a search engine.

well I guess that's what opinions are for

marketing/advertising/promotion can be done without a product in mind.
I promote my sites all the time, but I guess you could say my "product" would be an active site.

maybe a quick wiki link would clear the misinformed up

Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term "search engine friendly" may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimized for the purpose of search engine exposure.
btw, the OP copied the article from ezine and didn't source it
